Spot Description

Cap d'Agde is a busy purpose-built Mediterranean holiday resort with beach bars, restaurants and even a water park.

The Kitesurfing

Cap d'Agde, Richelieu

The kitesurf schools in Cap d’Agde operate in open water with boat support as the harbour wall at the eastern end of the beach makes kiting from the beach a sketchy endeavor for beginners and intermediates. A southerly wind generates some decent waves. A westerly is perfect for freestyle riding as the groynes render near glassy conditions. The northerly Tramontana can be quite gusty near the shore but advanced kiters can ride flat out in open water and enjoy epic cross-shore conditions round the peninsula towards Marseillan Plage.

Cap d'Agde, La Tamarissiere

Narrowly-spaced groynes at La Tamarissière make life difficult for beginners and you're better off kiting in open water with boat support provided by one of the kite schools.

Kitesurf Schools

Topkite based at the eastern end of Plage Richelieu and Kite Family at Le Grau d'Agde offer beginner to advanced lessons, gear hire and boat support.

Where to stay

Hotel Les Grenadines is a clean and comfortable 3 star hotel less than 5 minutes walk from Richelieu beach. Along Chemin de Notre Dame à Saint-Martin there's a number of campsites with mixed reviews. One of the best is 4 star Camping les Mimosas.

Where to eat

Mango’s Beach Bar has a laid back atmosphere and great tapas making it the best beach bar/restaurant in the area. With a view over the Med, bean bags, cold beers and cocktails it's perfect for an after session chill. The food's good too with excellent tapas, salads and burgers. Open from April to October. For a notch up in sophistication and great quality seafood, head to Restaurant Les Vagues. For simple mussels and chips, you can't beat La Moule En Fête at Mail de Rochelongue.
