Mont Blanc Ascent | Mountaineering Courses | Trekking in the Alps
Mont Blanc Ascent
The Mont Blanc, western Europe’s highest peak, is without a doubt one of the most popular mountains in the world and every year hundreds of mountaineers aspire to reach its majestic summit. The ascent is a relatively straightforward snow route, but requires a high level of physical fitness and sustained performance at altitude. On summit day, expect to spend 9 to 11 hours of continued effort, including the ascent and descent. Experience using crampons and ice axe in a high altitude environment is required.
Preparation and acclimatisation are key.
To increase your chances of success, Chamonix Aventure recommend their 5 and 6 day trips, which include 3 days of preparation. These 3 days are very important. You’ll practice snow and ice climbing, high altitude glacier walking, and you’ll spend 2 nights in a high altitude mountain hut, which is great for your acclimatisation.
Trips run from June to September
Prices start at 1235 € all included.

Mont Blanc Summit Descent
For advanced skiers with mountaineering experience, a highlight in the region is the descent from top of Mont Blanc via the Piton des Italiens. With a near 4000 m vertical drop, this is the longest descent you can do in the Alps. The helicopter drops you at 4000 m and you have a further 800 m to climb, which at this altitude takes about 4 hours. It’s fully worth it – the descent is steep, technical and sustained, and the experience is unforgettable.
Chamonix Vallée Blanche Descent
The Vallée Blanche is a legendary all-day descent and probably on every alpine skier’s bucket list. From the Aiguille du Midi (3800 m) you rope up with your guide and descend the arête on foot before donning skis and embarking on the awesome 20 km descent down to Chamonix (1000 m). You’ll ski steep terrain alongside imposing slabs of rock, negotiate crevasses, and ski over the giant Mer de Glace glacier with spectacular views of Mont Blanc.
